TED LASSO airs shock exit of fan favourite as latest episode pays tribute to ANTHONY HEAD

Wednesday, September 30, 2026 - Ted Lasso has delivered an emotional shock in its latest episode, with fan-favourite character Mae Green revealed to have died.

The news comes during the penultimate episode of season four, after Mae joins the Lady Greyhounds on their trip and shares an emotional moment with the team before watching them complete a dramatic comeback.

Rebecca Welton later receives news of Mae’s death and passes it on to Ted, although their conversation is deliberately obscured by music.

The episode gives Mae, played by Annette Badland, a significant final storyline as she reflects on her lifelong love of football and encourages the women’s team by telling them they belong on the pitch.

Badland has since confirmed that Mae’s departure came as a shock to her and said Jason Sudeikis personally told her about the storyline.

The episode ended with another emotional moment as the show paid tribute to Anthony Head, who played Rupert Mannion in the first three seasons. A message reading “In Memory of Anthony Head” appeared on screen following the episode.

Head died in June at the age of 72 from complications of pneumonia, adding another poignant moment to an already emotional episode as viewers await the season four finale.
