PREGNANT minors rescued from EARLY MARRIAGES in Mbeere

Wednesday, December 05, 2012 - Four primary school pupils were over the week rescued from early marriages in Mbeere after being married off by their parents.

The area children officer Grace Nyamira in collaboration with area chiefs managed to rescue four pupils, one of the children is a K.C.P.E. candidate who had already fallen pregnant.

Nyawira said that among the four children rescued were two from CCM Ndune Primary School. One of the girl’s had been married off to an elderly parent at the same school while the other had been married off to a trader in the area.

The girls had already fallen pregnant with one of them a K.C.P.E. candidate who has been married off to a standard seven pupil in the same school.

Cases of early marriages and teen pregnancy are yet to be history in the area as parents are the main perpetrators of the same despite teachings and warnings from administrators from the area.
