Friday, September 4, 2026 - Richard O'Sullivan, the much-loved British actor best known for starring in the groundbreaking 1970s sitcom Man About the House, has died aged 82.
The Royal Variety Charity confirmed that O'Sullivan passed away peacefully on September 4 surrounded by close family at Brinsworth House in west London, where he had lived for the past 23 years.
O'Sullivan became a household name as trainee chef Robin Tripp in Man About the House, a sitcom that challenged contemporary attitudes by portraying a man sharing a flat with two women.
He later reprised the character in the successful spin-off Robin's Nest and also starred as the title character in Dick Turpin. His son James remembered him as a funny, charming and kind-hearted father and grandfather, while the Royal Variety Charity praised his warmth and impeccable comic timing.
Tributes are now being paid to an actor whose performances helped make British television comedy a major part of millions of viewers' lives.
O'Sullivan's career also included appearances in films and television dramas, but his most enduring impact came through the sitcom characters that audiences continued to remember through reruns.
