Thursday, August 27, 2026 - Peter Cullen, the legendary voice behind Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise, has died at the age of 85.
Cullen died on August 26 at his Los Angeles home, surrounded by his family, his agent Kevin Motley confirmed. His cause of death has not been disclosed.
Cullen’s death marks a major loss for generations of Transformers fans who instantly recognized his powerful, commanding voice as the Autobot leader.
He originated the role in the 1980s animated series and continued as Optimus Prime across major franchise projects, including Michael Bay’s live-action films and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in 2023. He also remained widely recognized as the voice of Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh.
