A woman jailed for aborting using knitting needle

Tuesday March 27, 2012 - A 31 year old woman was jailed for two years for dumping a foetus after procuring an abortion.

Embu Senior Resident Magistrate Joan Wambiliyanga found Mary Muthoni guilty of improper disposal of infant’s body after five witnesses testified in her case. No charge of procuring an abortion was preferred against her.

The fully packed Courtroom was told that Muthoni committed the offence in Gitegi village in Kieni West District on June 17 last year.

Endarasha location Sub Chief Livingstone Waithaka, who was among the witnesses, confirmed that Muthoni confessed to have aborted using a knitting needle with the help of a woman who was not in court.
