65 year old woman faces kidnapping charges


Tuesday March 27, 2012 - A 65 year old woman appeared before a Kerugoya court charged with kidnapping the son of a prominent Kerugoya businessman and demanding Sh1.5 million ransom.

Beatrice Wanjiru from Ngangarithi village in Nyeri County was charged that on March 23, 2012 and jointly with others not before the court, abducted Erastus Kinyua Murithi and held him captive in her house.

A second count stated that she assaulted Muriithi and stabbed him several times with a kitchen knife.

Wanjiru denied the two charges and was released on Sh 200,000 bond with a surety of a similar amount or 100,000 cash bail.

The case will be heard on April 13.
