We have oil in Kenya at last - Kibaki

Monday March 26, 2012 - President Kibaki on Monday officially announced the presence of oil deposits in Turkana County.

The Head of State said that Kenya has made an historic breakthrough in oil exploration after discovery of 20 metres of oil bay during prospecting in Turkana.

This is a big boost to the ailing Kenyan economy which has been heavily indebted by import of oil.

“We have struck oil,” jovial Kibaki said.

Kibaki said that those in the oil area had been relocated to other prime areas.
Tullow Company which has been exploring the oil in Turkana for several years made the oil discovery.

Speaking at KICC, Kibaki said successful drilling will take place after a number of years.
