Shame as DC faces theft charges


Monday March 26, 2012 - Busia DC, Mwiandi Gitonga has been summoned by court to appear before Busia’s magistrate’s court over an alleged assault of an activist and stealing of sh 263,000 from him.

The DC and four others have also been charged with stealing money from the activist’s offices at Busia energy centre.

The complainant stated in his statement that, on March 9 2011 at 2pm in Busia town, he was in a conversation with the DC at a local hotel where men from the DC’s security detail hounded him with a gunny bag and beat him badly; he lost Sh 263,000 in the incident.

He also stated that the DC and his accomplices further went to his offices in Busia energy centre and stole a computer, a hard disk and important organisation documents.

The complainant also said that he instituted private investigations after discovering that the DC was using his influence to defeat justice.

The DC will appear before Busia magistrate‘s court on April 12, 9am.
