Man DRINKS Chang’aa to death, CLAIMS wife disrespects him in Bungoma

Monday 19th August 2013 - Grief engulfed Nakacha village in Bungoma County following the death of a father of four who died on Saturday afternoon after overdrinking Chang’aa.


The deceased, Kamuli Muresia is said to have overindulged in the illicit brew after claiming that the wife disrespected him. The wife, who is a nurse at a local hospital provided for the whole family in terms of food and school fees for their children.

Sources revealed that she looked down upon her husband and would order him around. She even refused to employ a house help since the man was jobless and so was supposed to do the house chores.

On Saturday afternoon, the man left saying that he was going to see a friend at the market place. Eyewitnesses said that they saw him entering a Chang’aa den with his friend at the famous Punda Slums.

After half an hour, they saw the owner of the place rushing outside screaming. The two men had collapsed and were unconscious on the floor.  Unfortunately, Kamuli passed away before he was rushed to hospital.

The Area Assistant Chief who confirmed the incident said that the deceased overdrunk chang’aa and the brew hadhigh alcohol content which burnt his intestines.

His body was taken to Bungoma District Hospital Mortuary for preservation.

The brewer escaped police arrest and is still being pursued by the officers.
