Wednesday, December 05, 2012 – The family of a man who is alleged to have committed suicide at a police station in Nyamira stormed into the police station demanding answers on the circumstances at which their kin died.

Kevin Matayo is alleged to have killed himself just five hours after he was arrested following a warrant of arrest issued against him.

He is alleged to have been issuing death threats to a trader who took action against him.

Matayo’s next of kin and Kisii township mayor Alloys Moseti said that something was fishy since police indicated that Matayo had used a rope to strangle himself yet prisoners are thoroughly frisked before being held in custody.

Moseti also pointed out that the officers took Matayo’s body to Nyamira mortuary before informing his relatives and only informed them of Matayo’s death hours after his death which is not procedural.

Matayo’s family has threatened to sue the officers since the area OCPD has failed to answer their questions on how Matayo died.
