Egerton University students STRIKE over KILLING

Thursday, November 29, 2012 - Yesterday in Nakuru, students from Egerton University Nakuru town campus demonstrated and caused a lot of damage in the town. Apparently the students were demonstrating against the killing of a fourth year student who was killed at the beginning of the week.

The students had earlier on planned to have a peaceful demonstration through the streets of Nakuru to Nakuru police station to complain against laxity by police on investigating the case.

However police disrupted their match triggering chaos. The students were involved in three hours running battles with the police which led to the arrest of 36 students. The intensity of destruction was visible enough after the students broke the windows of DT Dobie’s showrooom.

According to some of the students, the fourth year Bachelor of Commerce Finance option student was murdered and after her death, they tried calling her number which was still on. A man answered her calls and police followed the lead to Menengai forest where they lost track of the assailants.

Nakuru OCPD condemned the protests and asked the students to allow police to do their job.
