Ruto praises GEMA resolution

Monday March 26, 2012 - Eldoret North MP William Ruto has supported Friday’s resolution by a section of GEMA leaders that they will resolve to collect 2 million signatures to be presented to the UN general assembly to have the ICC trials delayed until Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta contests for presidency.

Ruto said the assertions by GEMA leaders were visionary and are exercising their constitution rights and freedom of expression. 

Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu who was among the conveners of  Friday’s GEMA meeting, said he will mobilise over 2 million signatures to  request the ICC court to postpone trials until after next year general elections.

Though Ruto backed GEMA’s strategy, he declined to give his own definite position over the proposal to defer the trial, saying he would make that known at an appropriate time.

The Eldoret North MP was speaking after attending Sunday service at Faith Evangelistic Ministry Church in Karen.

Ruto reiterated his innocence on post election violence and urged all Kenyans to pray for them. He said the power of prayers will make them free.

The Friday GEMA meeting also endorsed Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta as the region’s presidential flag bearer.

The leaders also blamed Prime Minister Raila Odinga and some western nations over the ICC predicaments on the Ocampo 4.
